PACS - Digital Imaging

Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) is set to revolutionise the Australian Radiology sector.
PACS is an environement where radiology images (X-Rays) and data are generated, stored and linked electronically.

This new way of managing a radiology practice improves efficiency and sharing of information, leading to better quality of care and patient outcomes.

  • Improved patient flow and reporting.
  • Faster and broader access to scans in hospitals.
  • Can reduce patient re-scanning and length of stay.
  • Enable referring doctors on-line access to scans with reports emailed through Promedicus.net.

Some current scans are captured electronically, for example, CT, MRI and Ultrasound. However, for the most part, these scans are then printed to analogue film, with the digital image discarded. Films can only be in the one place at any one time, but with an integrated PACS all scans are digitally stored, displayed and linked to the clinical opinion and previous radiological history.

The key to an effective PACS is its integration to the Radiology Information System (RIS)

Pro Medicus and Agfa have joined their strengths to develop Australia's tightest integration of an RIS and PACS. Agfa has invested in Pro Medicus technology to integrate thier world leading Impax system with Australia's leading RIS:
Pro Medicus Practice Management System. A powerful combination to produce Australia's best PACS infrastructure.
